Balancing brake system allows better modulation
The Viper stock front brakes are Brembo 4 piston calipers with differential bore sizes of 38mm and 42mm. The rear Viper caliper is a 36mm single piston floating design originally from a 1988-1992 Renault Alliance/Eagle Premier and currently used on the Lotus Elise. Front to rear brake balance is a result of front to rear piston area:

Because the stock rear calipers do not produce sufficient brake torque, the factory brake system tends to easily lock up the front wheels. The StopTech® Front Big Brake Kit achieves better balance by going to smaller front pistons but the same area ratio is reached with a 38mm rear piston size. The larger 40mm piston provides even greater rear braking power, better overall balance, and can be installed without having to modify the factory proportioning valve or add an adjustable proportioning valve.
